Brandon a tough 61-56 loss to the Fraport Skyliners in Champions League play. You move to 0-5 against Frankfurt. Are the Skyliners slowly becoming a bad omen for you to play?

Yeah another tough loss to them. Wouldn’t say bad omen but more just like an annoying monkey on my back as some would say.

As predicted this was a grin out game. What do you in general like most about these type of games where fans don´t see beautiful basketball, but intense basketball.

I like the most that you really find out what kind of team you are in those moments when things aren’t going well for either side and you just have to find ways to win. Unfortunately for us, we weren’t able to come out on top but we will learn from this game and continue to grow

The first quarter was a tale of two quarters as Frankfurt had the quick 13-2 lead. After watching film, did their start surprise you when one sees how they played the last weeks?

They definitely got out to a quick start on us which put us in the hole early. I knew eventually they would start finding their rhythm so its not a complete shock

Kwame Vaughn was due for a break out game and nailed two three pointers early. Did you sense he was playing with a chip on his shoulder?

You could tell he was determined to be aggressive from the very start of the game and came out hot, which helped them to get that 13-2 start on us

Helios ended the first quarter on a 18-7 run to dead lock the game at 20-20. Serbian Djordje Lelic was huge sparking the team with many buckets. Is he a guy that can always step up when you need him most?

Lelic is a big time player who is known to really step up and be counted on in big moments. From what I have heard about him before I got here, he was a critical piece to why this team won the championship last year and you saw in this game. Have no doubt he will be huge for us again in big games this year

Helios defended a lot better in the second quarter limiting Frankfurt to 9 points. What adjustments did you make to keep the German team better in check?

We just turned up the aggression on defense we felt that they came out and punched us in the mouth, so to speak, early in the first. Think our team did a great job responding and going on that run in the second

No BBL team has been able to keep Shavon Shields in check this season, but you held him scoreless in the first half. What was the secret to holding him scoreless?

Our 4 men Simon and Kyle did a great job of not allowing him to get any easy looks. They made him work for everything and it helped and he missed a couple shots. We knew he was a big part of their offense so one of the keys was making things tough for him

The Fraport Skyliners extended their lead to seven points in the third quarter. Once again it was Kwame Vaughn who supplied the spark. What was most annoying with his play?

He is a great player and a tough person to guard. Even when you think you have him stopped he makes some tough shots. Going to have to do a better job guarding him next time around when we play them at their place

Helios entered the fourth quarter down by two points, but you scored in bunches getting a bucket and trey. Coming out of the end of the third quarter huddle, did you feel the need to step up?

Yeah I definitely could have done a lot better on both sides on the floor for my team so I was just trying to get something going to try to help us get the win

Shavon Shields finally scored his first points after 32 minutes and later hit another three. Did the club underestimate his three point range?

No we didnt underestimate him we knew he could shoot. He just got loose on one of their plays and knocked down a big time shot.

When you look back at this game would you agree that the Mike Morrison energy and three blocks led Frankfurt to the win?

I think there were several reasons for their win and Mike’s play was definitely one of them

You contributed nine points in the loss. With a few more made shots at the end, you could have pulled out the win. Were you nevertheless still content with your overall aggressiveness?

I was happy with my aggressiveness but not at all with my effectiveness

Helios has played stellar defense giving up only 61 points in three Champions League games, but are 0-3. Do you see continued good defense in the future to finally pay off with wins?

Its an old cliche saying buts its very true, defense wins championships. We are a defensive team and that will continue to be our calling card for the rest of the season. We have lost some close games but I have no doubt we will start coming out with the wins

Helios did many things well outrebounding Frankfurt, having 17 offensive rebounds and more points in the paint. On what offensive things does the team need to work on?

We still need just get in a good rhythm as a team. We are still learning each others tendencies and are not in full sync. Its still early on in the season so we are still tinkering with sets to see what best fits. We will start clicking soon enough

You saw the Fraport Skyliners now for the first time. They are having a BBL slump. How much potential do they have to be a playoff team?

Yeah they can definitely be a playoff team in the BBL once they really get rolling

Who will win game seven tonight the Chicago Cubs or the Cleveland Indians and who are you rooting for?

I don’t follow baseball anymore but I am glad that the Cubs were able to pull out the win and end the curse!

What was the last movie you saw?

Suicide Squad.

Thanks Brandyn for the chat.
