Brian congrats on the 87-82 win in Braunschweig. Bayreuth had a strong fourth quarter to seal the win. What were the main reasons for the victory?
Thank you, we really stepped up our defense in the second half after they scored way too many points in the first half. I think that was the main reason we were able to get a lead and finish the game strong.
What has been the main strength as of recent under Michael Koch that Bayreuth has been able to win close games? It seems like the team is more calm and you guys are allowed to make a mistake?
We are really enjoying playing together as a team and we are full of confidence as we approach each game. Yes relaxing and being able to play free and have fun is a huge key to us winning games.
With Nicolai Simon injured, Bayreuth seems to have no hole at the guard position. What makes the combo of Kevin Hamilton and DJ Seeley so unique? They have seemed to gel after only a short time.
Kevin has always been a great penetrating and passing guard and now DJ is here and has been knocking down big shots for us from outside so I think they really work well together with their own individual strengths.
medi bayreuth has won the last three road games and five of the last six games. Do you ever ask yourself why the club wasn´t able to play like this earlier in the season? What other things have changed under Michael Koch for the better?
Yes of course we wish we were winning games all season like this, but we have been doing the best we can since the season started. I think we just have more confidence and work better together with our new defensive concepts than we did when we were losing so many games earlier in the year.
When I ask you what do you and Kyle Weems and the number 24 have in common? Well you guys are fighting for the Bayreuth consistency award as you both have scored in double figures 24 times a piece this season. Is this a battle you could win or would a tie and many more wins be nice to end the season?
I’m not battling my teammate for anything, winning as many games as we can to finish out the season would be the best scenario.
The next game is against the Fraport Skyliners who medi bayreuth beat 74-67 in the first game of the season. What memories do you still have of the game?
It was the first game and we were fired up and full of energy. I remember it being a physical and exciting game with a great atmosphere and a perfect way to start the season with a home win.
My duel of the day will be you against Johannes Voigtmann. What memories do you have of the German big man?
I remember he is a good shooter, passer, and a strong solid center.
Frankfurt has had much misfortune not closing out games so well in 2014. What will be key in getting the win?
We need to get back in transition defense and try to limit them to one shot each time down the floor. Defense will be the key to this game we need to be focused defensively from the start.
If someone had told you before the 2014 NCAA tournament that UConn would take it all what would you have said? Would you have been surprised?
I think everyone who paid attention to the tournament was surprised but they are a good team in a good league and they played some really great basketball games when it counted the most.
What was the last DVD movie that you saw?
Wolf of Wall Street.
Thanks Brian fort he chat.
