He spoke to German Hoops at the 2014 Beko BBL  allstar break

Larry thanks for talking to German Hoops A tough 80-73 loss against MBC. Did MBC put some kind of basketball repellent on the Pheonix Hagen rims, because three point shots weren´t falling? I guess if you shoot 1/16 from outside, it will be pretty much be hard to beat any team.

Yea I agree you can’t best any team shooting the way we shot from behind the arc. The worst thing about it was we were in our gym, where most of the time you are suppose to shoot good.

I can imagine head coach Ingo Freyer wasn´t happy about the only six assists. Is the lack of creating in this game reason for concern or was it more the MBC defense that caused havoc for the Phoenix Hagen offense?

It’s tough because of our style of play is designed for us to score at a high volume, so there is no real pressure for our guards to create for others because their roles are to score.

I know its harder for you to enjoy a monster game of 18 points and 15 rebounds when you lose, but if your big men Dino Gregory and Keith Ramsey were to start calling you Larry the monster Gordon, would that at least give you a little smile, because you definitely had a huge game on the glass.

Haha! Yea it’s been tough as of late to enjoy individual success when your not winning games. I’m the type of player that really doesn’t care unless we Win games. Not saying I don’t observe the way I play but you take more pride as a player when you can back your stats up with Wins!

At the halfway point, Phoenix Hagen is in 12th place with a record of 7-10. Phoenix Hagen has lost five of the last six games. What is your overall summary of the first half of the season for the team. What has to improve in the second half of the season so you become a playoff team again?

Well I can’t speak on how my teammates feel but for myself I’m more disappointed than anything because I had very high expectations from our team and as of the first half of the season we are not where we want to be. But like the saying goes, “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish”. I think the biggest thing for our team in this 2nd half of the season is to really focus on our defense. Scoring a lot of points don’t mean anything if your giving up a lot points.

Congrats on leading the Beko BBL at the halfway point in rebounding at 8,0. You have left big country John Bryant behind you. You take a lot of pride in your shooting, but how good does it feel to be the top rebounder in stats in the Beko BBL at the moment?

It actually feels good, because I pride myself on rebounding because it’s one of the strengths in my game. Also because I’m a 6’4 guard leading a league with a lot of really good big man in rebounding, so it feels real good!

You meet so many different players during games, but you don´t have time to get to know them. How much are you looking forward to spending time with other players from other teams at the 2014 Beko BBL allstar day?

I’m really looking forward to it because this a time for everybody to come together and just take a break from the seriousness of the league and really just have fun!

Is there one teammate from team international that you are especially looking forward to seeing and playing with?

I look forward with playing with all of them because they are all good players but if I was to single one person out it would be Jared Jordan. I really like and respect his game.

Who would you put your money on the slam dunk contest with guys Ramon Galloway(Fraport Skyliners) Will Clyburn (Ulm), Brian Harper (Bremerhaven), Ryan Brooks ( Bonn) and Rashad Bishop(SC Rasta Vechta)

I think it will come down to B. Harper and Will Clyburn!

When you look back at your youth, was there an NBA Allstar game that you particulary have in your memory being the game, the slam dunk contest or the three point shooting contest?

2000 Slam Dunk Contest when Vince Carter killed it. Best dunk contest!

You have seen teammate David Bell make many unbelievable shots on the court in the last one and half years, but what crazy shot do you see him still making this season?

You never know what to expect with DB when it comes to shooting but when he is in his groove, he shoots the lights out from anywhere.

What was the last DVD movie that you saw?

Runner Runner

Thanks Larry for the chat.
