He spoke to German Hoops after the win against SC Rasta Vechta
Congrats on the 80-78 win against SC Rasta Vechta. Was this just another proof how difficult the Beko BBL is with the newcomer giving 2013 Beko BBL playoff team Phoenix Hagen a real run for the money?
I guess you can say so, they did a good job at slowing us down a little bit and were stronger than people think. They will Win some games this season.
Your three pointer wasn´t falling so you concentrated more on the glass. How important is your versatility this season concerning the success of Phoenix Hagen?
My versatility is one of my strong suits in my game, so when something is not working I just do what is and let everything else take care if itself.
Richie Williams had a big season last year in Pro A and so far this season in the Beko BBL, he is showing no transition difficulty and is averaging 12,8ppg, 7,0rpg, 5,8apg and 2,0spg for a 177cm point guard. Have you been surprised by his play and what do you like most about his game?
At the end of the day it’s all basketball, no matter if it’s the BBL or Pro A. It’s all about your will to be the best no matter what. There are a lot of great players in low levels that are just waiting on their opportunity. I’m not surprised he is having success.
Phoenix Hagen continues to play where they left off last season in the Beko BBL. Currently you have a perfect 3-0 season. How is this seasons mix of old and new players coping with the success?
It’s a good mix, we a have a great group if guys who are all willing to buy in to the system we run and we all have the same goal in wanting to win.
Do the new players have that healthy confidence that is needed for being successful and coping with pressure early on?
Yea I think so, our guys know how to play the game and they have a lot of confidence in what they bring to the team.
Phoenix Hagen seem to have their roles balanced with the scorers like Mark Dorris, David Bell, Henry Dugat and yourself, the role players with Ole Wendt and Nikira Khartchenkov and the two defensive stoppers Kevin Ramsey and Dino Gregory. How developed is the team chemistry at this juncture of the season?
The chemistry is good right now but we can definitely improve. We are still feeling out what guys tendencies are and it’s getting there.
How valuable is the duo of Kevin Ramsey and Dino Gregory. They are both averaging 8,0rpg. How do they compliment each other best on the floor?
They compliment each other good, Dino is more of a power player and Keith is more finesse. But they are both great shot blockers.
The team is averaging 86 points per game and giving up 81 points per game. On what areas does the team still need to work on for the upcoming games?
I think we can be much more efficient on offense and that will improve the more we get into the season.
Phoenix Hagen head coach Ingo Freyer gives freedom to his player. How has his coaching style developed from last season?
It’s the same as last season, no changes.
Your shooting 16,7% from outside. Last season you shot 43& from downtown. Are you worried about your current shooting or will it come with time and are you taking extra shooting practice?
It will come, not worried at all. I’m a good shooter.
What has been your impression of new point guard Henry Dugat. How has he made the transition to the Beko BBL? Does the fact that he only has three assists in the first three games worry you?
Henry is really good, he will be okay. In the system we run, assist for our point guards is not a priority, we want to score and they have the green light to score.
Fraport Skyliner Andrew Rautins has shown his sniper ability in the last two games scoring 60 points. Who wins a shooting contest him or David Bell?
I’m taking D. Bell all the way
What was the last DVD movie that you saw?
Thanks Larry for the chat.
